York Region was identified by the Ministry of the Attorney General as one of the early sites for a Youth Justice Committee in April of 2002. Operation Springboard was invited by York Region's Crown Attorney's office and the Youth Justice Committees' Steering Committee to serve as the administrating agency.

The program has been successfully involving the the community in assisting young people who have become involved in the criminal justice system, their families and victims of offenses since its inception. The program's success builds on the skill and dedication of a remarkable group of volunteers, many of whom have been involved since the project began!
