The Community Service Order Program (CSO) is a
sentencing alternative that allows offenders to make a positive
contribution to the community for their actions.
Our clients, both adults and young persons, have
been ordered by the court to complete a required amount of community
service as a condition of their probation. CSO clients are frequently
first-time offenders, though some may possess an existing criminal
record.
The Program strives to benefit both the community
and the offender by providing invaluable hours of community service,
to non-profit organizations. Each year, over
1,180 individuals provide over 54,000 hours of service to a variety
of settings including: food banks, community centers, services for
the elderly, park cleanups, cooperative housing, religious organizations
and many other worthwhile initiatives.
CSO staff arrange the best possible fit between offenders and their placements.
Ideally, the placement benefits from the help and the offender has
the opportunity to see the positive difference his or her
skills, abilities and time can have the community.
