SOAR is an enjoyable day or evening program for
young adults ages 18 to 28 with developmental disabilities. The
ultimate goal is for the participant to make informed choices about
future life directions and enhance his or her level of independence.
There are four levels of programming, including life skills
instruction through areas and activities such as:
- nutrition and budgeting
- group work
- recreational outings
- community exploration
- socialization
- literacy development
- computer training
- volunteer placements
- job trials
Competitive employment is a goal for many participants,
and program graduates often provide mentorship for current participants.
Staff supports for participants include counselling, job shadowing,
job coaching, referrals and advocacy.
