Developmental Disability Services

Springboard is proud to offer programming for those individuals with developmental disabilities.

In the mid 1980’s, the various levels of government significantly withdrew from the areas of housing for those with development disabilities. Shortly thereafter, Springboard decided to fill this gap of service to prevent those with developmental disabilities from becoming at-risk and possibly ending up in our justice programming. We wanted to ensure that those with disabilities had access to adequate programming, supervision and guidance to help them build life-skills.

We continue to develop programming to work with people with developmental disabilities to engage them and prepare them for independent living and community participation. Our programming and our clientele has evolved over the years but our core focus has remained the same.

Our Seeking Opportunities Accessing Resources (S.O.A.R) program focuses on life-skill training, with courses such as nutrition, literacy and budgeting, and also focuses on transitioning participants by encouraging volunteer or employment placements in the community. We also offer fee-for-service programming and family support services.

We also operate two group homes for males with developmental disabilities. These homes, located in Toronto, also provide life-skill training and include counselling in nutrition, budgeting, and literacy.
