Intermittent Community Work Program

The Intermittent Community Work Program (ICWP) provides a community work alternative for adult males serving an intermittent (usually weekend) sentence who qualify based on strict criteria determined by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services (MCSCS). This allows the offender to maintain family and community connections – a key contributor to healthy rehabilitation. This program is available with the support of community partners in a number of communities throughout Ontario.

Offenders are required to complete community work placement during the days of their sentence and then report immediately home under house arrest monitored by the MCSCS. These offenders are supervised during the work placement with non-profit organizations.

With the support of MADD Canada, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and MCSCS, Springboard and its community partner, St. Leonard’s Community Services of London offers a voluntary group Substance Use program for impaired drivers serving weekend intermittent sentences in two major institutions (in London and Toronto). Participants are selected based on the same strict screening criteria but in addition must have no bodily harm connected with their impaired driving conviction. This program focuses on substance use, the impacts of impaired driving on self, victims, and society, as well as education and coping skills.
